Impugning Reality
objective
Create an 18 x 24 poster based on a song’s lyrics using an analog image creation process without any digital manipulations. The poster’s purpose is to reinterpret the verses in a visual language using these analog images I’ve created. The materials used are a random collection of day to day materials projected through an overhead projector, windows, or television.
connecting
Radiohead’s Fake Plastic Trees lyrics were selected for my interpretation. It depicts the fine line between reality, drugs, and materialism. A collection of photos of architecture, drugs, lego, pill bottles, and more
are collected and analogously manipulated to create
a brand new set of visuals that I used to interpret
the song’s meaning.
[Verse 01]
A green plastic watering can
For a fake Chinese rubber plant
In the fake plastic earth
That she bought from a rubber man
In a town full of rubber plans
To get rid of itself
[Chorus 01]
It wears her out
It wears her out
It wears her out
It wears her out
[Verse 02]
She lives with a broken man
A cracked polystyrene man
Who just crumbles and burns
He used to do surgery
For girls in the eighties
But gravity always wins
[Chorus 02]
And it wears him out
It wears him out
It wears him out
It wears him out
[Verse 03]
She looks like the real thing
She tastes like the real thing
My fake plastic love
But I can't help the feeling
I could blow through the ceiling
If I just turn and run
[Chorus 03]
And it wears me out
It wears me out
It wears me out
It wears me out
[Outro]
And if I could be who you wanted
If I could be who you wanted
All the time
All the time
